Neuropsychological and neurobiological effects of inhalant abuse

Chronic long-term use of inhalants has been shown to result in neurological deficits, structural brain abnormalities and cognitive impairment. However, little research has been conducted in young users of inhalants. This project aims to define the neuropsychological and neurobiological effects of inhalant misuse during adolescence, including its effects on specific cognitive skills. The effects of inhalant misuse on brain structure and function are also being examined, using a variety of brain imaging techniques (eg, MRI, DTI, fMRI, perfusion MRI). The study is in the final stages of recruitment.
